another と other の使い分け

another / other / the other

another / other / the other / others は「別のもの・他のもの」を指す表現です。単数か複数か、不特定か特定（残り全部）かで使い分けます。

説明

「別のもの・他のもの」を指したいときには、another / other / the other / others を使い分けます。

「もう1杯ください」「他の人たちは賛成だ」「片方は赤、もう一方は青」のように、すでに話に出たもの以外を指すときに使います。

選ぶ基準は2つです。指すものが単数か複数か、そして不特定（どれでもよい）か特定（決まった一方・残り全部）かで形が決まります。

another はもともと an + other なので、単数のものにだけ使います。

an が含まれているので、後ろには 単数の名詞を置きます。単独で another（=もう1つ）と代名詞のようにも使えます。

不特定の「他の〜」を複数で指すときは other と others を使います。

全体の数が決まっているときは the を付けます。
2つのうち残りの1つは the other（単数）、3つ以上で残り全部を指すときは the others（複数）になります。
最初の1つを one で受けて、one ... the other / the others の形でよく使います。
